Image
A good book can be hugely satisfying, it can teach you about things beyond your daily horizons, wipe away ignorance and instill curiousity, and can very well create characters so vivid you feel as if you really know them.  If reading is a habit you would like to get into, there are a number of ways to cultivate it.On this article I will be sharing few ways to help improve your reading culture.  1:Make a list of the books you would like to read in a year;month;week...or even in a day.Keep a list of all the great books you want to read. You can keep this in your journal, in a pocket notebook, on your personal home page, you can also write it on the walls of your room, just to make sure that you can always see it as a reminder.   2:Reduce television/Internet . If you really want to read more, try cutting back on TV or Internet consumption. This may be difficult for many people. Still, every minute you reduce of Internet/TV, you could use for reading. This coul...

CREATIVE WRITING

We must know that creative writing is any form of writing that expresses ideas and thoughts in an imaginative way. It's different from the normal academic writing that is factual, straight to the point etc.   From this above, let us classify all written works into two: fiction and non-fiction   Non-fiction is any work of art that expresses real life situations whilst Fiction is anything written that's not real, in other words, imagined  Creative writing includes poems, novels, short stories, movie scripts, comedy anything that is in fact imaginative. These forms of writing have a way of entertaining the readers and giving vivid images of events that have either happened or just exist in the writers head.   Now you may be thinking to yourself, I love reading novels, I love spoken word poetry, I want to be able to write scripts etc. How do I do this?   This is how you do it: BE CREATIVE! You cannot give what you don't have remember. Start by...

THINGS I WISH I'D KNOWN BEFORE WE GOT MARRIED by Gary Chapman

Image
The book, published in 2010, contains twelve chapters and 200 pages. Gary Chapman who is an anthropologist, has been on continual study of human cultures and he came to a conclusion which is inevitable that "marriage between a man and a woman is the foundation of all human societies." All couples anticipate living happily ever after. No one gets married hoping to be miserable, yet we all know that divorce rate hovers around fifty percent. Divorce is the result of lack of preparation for marriage and failure to learn the skills of working together as teammates in an intimate relationship. What is ironic is that we recognize the need for education in all our pursuits of life and fail to recognize that we need it when it comes to marriage. This is a book on how to have a successful marriage. Being in love is not an adequate foundation for building a successful marriage, we often fail to consider the fact that our social, spiritual and intellectual interests are miles a...

FINDING YOUR SUBJECT

The topic we shall be discussing is quite simple and and at the same time an essential one to take note of. We all know that before you write, especially nonfiction articles, you must have a subject. In this context, subject means the "main topic or idea" on which you build your write up. This invariably means that, as a writer, it is imperative you find your subject, else you might beat around the bush and not really make a major point thereby reducing your level of impact. The fact is, having a subject (that is, main topic or theme) helps your focus, amplifies your creativity and delivers your message clearly. It helps your readers anticipate and understand your work better, leaving them less puzzled about what you are trying to say. For example, let us say Upjay picks up a book that has no title, in this case, subject. The truth is, he will spend the whole reading journey trying to figure out the main message the author is trying to pass across and somewhere in his s...

MAINTAINING RELEVANCE

Image
Firstly, let's consider the definition of the word, "relevance." The dictionary defines the word as the state of being relevant which is not being out of date, old fashioned or outmoded. Having established this, how then can I remain relevant in my chosen field, career, workplace, sphere of influence? We'll be looking at four steps which can guide us on the right path. They are: 1. Stay Within Your God-Ordained Purpose: I am very confident that before this stage, we should have been able to identity our purpose for us to remain relevant in it. Do what you enjoy, do not choose a job you don't like just for the money else you might likely spend all the extra cash trying to relieve the stress of doing what you hate. 2.Self Development: This is very essential in whatsoever field or career path you might have chosen. You have to develop yourself. Take a course, learn a new skill, try something new. Be knowledgeable. Graduating from school is not enough, ...

EVERYONE COMMUNICATES,FEW CONNECT BY John.C.Maxwell

Image
Let me start with this quote. "It's not enough just to work hard, it's not enough to do a great job to be successful, you need to learn how to really communicate with others." Good communication and leadership are all about connecting. The writer of this book, John C. Maxwell is a leadership expert, an international speaker and also a preacher of God's word. This book was really engaging for me because it is filled with so much of John's personal stories, anecdotes, his personal life experiences, etc, which I could really relate with on a personal stand. Though the book is crowded with a lot of principles on how to communicate and connect with people, I have decided to highlight some few points that really resonated with me and so I would also encourage you to go get the book. If you want to succeed, you must learn how to connect with people. And while it may seem like some folks are just born with the ability, the fact is that anyone can learn how ...
